Barrow Hill Academy

Admissions

As an Academy, Barrow Hill Primary Academy is its own admissions' authority.  If you would like your child to attend our school, please see full details of our admission arrangements below.

Nursery Admissions.

Our Nursery provides part-time education 3 and 4-year-old children. The maximum number on roll in any one session is 13.  Children may attend for five mornings.

Your child’s name can be added to the Nursery Admissions list by telephoning the school and speaking to the Nursery Teacher Miss Cooper.  Places are allocated in a fair manner and parents need to understand that the allocation of a Nursery place to a child who lives outside the normal catchment area does not automatically guarantee a place in the Reception class.

Admission Arrangements 2024-2025

For entry in to our Reception (and any in-year admissions), Barrow Hill Primary Academy participate in the Local Authority Admissions scheme. Therefore, Derbyshire County Council co-ordinate the Admissions applications on the academy's behalf.

The LA is responsible for all admissions and enables parents to express a preference for one, two or three schools and to place those preferences in rank order. Parents must make their application on a common application form or preferably via the Derbyshire County Council website, prior to the cut-off date, giving reasons for their preferred schools.  Further information about the coordinated admissions scheme is available in the Authority’s Parents’ Information Booklet – ‘An Essential Guide to Primary Education’.

Reception Admissions

All applications to Reception must be made directly to Derbyshire Local Authority as indicated below. There is only one admission round within the year into Reception and this is in September.  A child who is five between the 1st September 2019 and the following 31st August 2020 will be admitted into Reception in the September 2024. The pupil admission number for Barrow Hill Primary Academy is 15.

Transfer

Children transfer to Secondary education when they have completed their final year in our school at the age of 11. The majority of our children move to Springwell Community or Netherthorpe School.
