Remote Learning

Information for parents

This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education where national or local restrictions require entire cohorts (or bubbles) to remain at home.

For details of what to expect where individual pupils are self-isolating, please see the final section of this page.

The remote curriculum: what is taught to pupils at home

A pupil’s first week of being educated remotely might look different from our standard approach, while we take all necessary actions to prepare for a longer period of remote teaching.

What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the week of pupils being sent home as a minimum?

  • The children will continue to use our well-established and familiar learning platform, Class Dojo to access remote education
  • Children will have access to paper-based materials to support them with their learning. These will be offered for collection
  • Families can expect to see a maths, English, spelling based tasks and a message from the head, once during that week

Following the first week of remote education, will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?

The school’s offer will closely match the curriculum planned for and taught in school. The lessons will be sequential and will be guided by the team of teachers associated with the year group.

Children will be taught the full range of subjects over a half-term with some subjects blocked in order to explore new themes and concepts more deeply.

Our PE curriculum will be delivered by one of our teachers and will follow the school’s Real PE scheme.

Teaching will continue to adhere to the principles associated with the standard practices adopted in school in relation to the schemes already used – these include Inspire maths,  reading/writing curriculum, Read, Write Inc. We believe that this will allow for continuity of learning. At times, the materials used may be adapted to take account of the differences between in-class and remote education. In these circumstances we may use materials offered by external, validated providers, such as Oak Academy. Oak Academy/ BBC Bitesize / White Rose Maths / Oxford Owl / RWI Youtube/ NCETM / Numberblocks

How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?

We will be using the online platform Class Dojo to deliver our remote learning from EYFS upwards.

If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?

We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education

  • We have supplied pupils with devices as appropriate and will continue to do so.
  • These include government-funded laptops and school-funded tablets
  • We will procure data and/or dongles for those pupils who may not have access to wifi
  • We will provide support for the set-up the appropriate apps
  • We will provide telephone support to those who encounter difficulties engaging with
  • the technology
